What do I do if I have a dental emergency?

Call Dr. Hyder’s office to seek immediate treatment. If you are experiencing a dire emergency dial 911.

What do I do If I’m feeling severe tooth pain?

You can take an over the counter pain reliever to improve symptoms. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Hyder if pain persists and apply a cold compress if you are experiencing swelling. In severe cases, your pain may be caused by tooth decay which can be treated in our office.

What if my tooth is dark and causing a lot of pain?

A tooth that appears dark and hurts badly is a clear sign of an infection inside the tooth or a trauma to the tooth. These situations will require a root canal. This will remove the infected pulp or clear out the damaged portion of the tooth.

What do I do if my tooth gets knocked out?

If possible, retrieve the lost tooth and contact our office immediately.

Lightly rinse the tooth and place it in a cup of saliva or milk for transport to us. A tooth that is preserved like this may be able to be replaced within one hour of loss. Dental implants, dental bridges, and dentures can also be used to replace the missing tooth if it cannot be rescued.

What if my child’s baby tooth gets knocked out?

While it is true that every kid will lose their baby teeth, it is important to preserve them until they fall out naturally. If your child is involved in an accident and a baby tooth is knocked out, we recommend schedule an appointment with Dr. Hyder. Even though it is not a permanent tooth, he will want to assess the damage.

What do I do if my denture or dental bridge breaks?

If possible, schedule an appointment at our office and bring the broken appliance with you. Dr. Hyder will help you to determine the best treatment plan for replacing the appliance.

What do I do if my dental crown or filling breaks or falls out?

Contact our Philadelphia office and Dr. Hyder will be able to construct and fit you with a new dental restoration. Do not attempt to re-glue your restoration or reach your crown or filling.

What do I do if an object is stuck between my teeth?

Do not use any sharp objects to try to remove the object as it may damage the tooth or gums. Gently floss between the teeth to see if this can remove the object. Contact our office if you can not remove the object.
